What about Bob

After the KU game Saturday night, Mom happened upon the book "Mostly Bob" by Tom Corwin, a musician and music producer. I've had the book on my living room end table for several weeks but hadn't yet cracked it open.

We read the book together, which only took 10 minutes or so. It's written very creatively: The little golden retriever image on each page makes the book a flip book, and you can see the puppy silhouette walking and wagging his tail. I don't want to give away too much because it's a wonderful read. But the story is actually an e-mail Tom sent to family and friends about his golden, Bob.

My favorite excerpt:

He melted my heart to the core and took many other prisoners along the way (you may have been one). The unconditional love one can have for an animal is so very close to the best concepts of "God."

It's good to be a Jayhawk!

It's definitely good to be a KU grad tonight. Brian and I had family and friends over to cheer and scream and watch the Jayhawks beat the Tar Heels. He wowed our guests with delicious, tender ribs that he smoked all day long. Yum. Other highlights:

The spread.

March Madness melody

Pull on your crimson & blue, crank up your computer speakers. It's time to Rock Chalk, Jayhawk! I wonder what Brian & I will be doing at approximately 7:47 p.m. today ... Best of luck, boys! Tell Roy we said hi.

Godzilla Dog

Need a laugh? Check this out. (Brian and I saw it earlier this week on an "America's Funniest Home Video" rerun. I immediately looked to see if I could find it on YouTube.) The golden is oh-so adorable:

I promise I don't have books inscribed to Dakota & Lilly ...

I just finished reading "Must Love Dogs" by Claire Cook. It really wasn't about dogs at all, but I enjoyed how dogs brought characters together in this fiction novel. The book made me laugh and was a nice little escape, but wasn't that memorable. Kind of like the 2005 movie adaption starring Diane Lane and John Cusack. I know I've seen the movie before but can't even remember it well enough to compare it to the book. Oh well.

I did find the interview with the author at the end of the book interesting. Consider, for example, this excerpt:

While promoting "Must Love Dogs," have you met some especially interesting dogs or heard some good dog stories?
One of the big surprises of my book tour was just how many readers asked me to inscribe books to their dogs! I can't even count the books I've signed to Peppy and Chico and Queenie and Hunter ...

April fools

Why is it that a combined 185 pounds of puppy cram into this one little bathroom in our house to sleep at night in this arrangement we fondly call the bunk bed?

Meanwhile, Meow Meow dozes peacefully while having the entire couch -- and living room -- to herself.

Sunday driver

Last week, Brian got to have a close encounter with Nascar driver Ryan Newman's Dodge Charger, sponsored by Alltel:

On Sunday afternoon, when Brian & his buddy Tony spent a few misty hours checking out the 18 holes at Auburn Hills Golf Course, we were all reminded why Brian made a smart career choice working for the company that sponsors Newman's car rather than as the company-sponsored crew chief:

Doh
! (Funny side note: The boys had to call backup from the pit crew, AKA the clubhouse employees, to get this lil' race car back on track.) I guess Brian learned why you don't off-road between fairways.
