I've been preoccupied with some bigger projects lately and have let blogging slip way down on my priority list. But I was determined to get back in the saddle this weekend, beginning by updating my blog in the next few posts with a little about what I've been up to. (Thank goodness for Twitter, the micro-blogging site that I've been actively using, to help me remember!) My last two months, in a dozen posts or less:
I finished "Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger and saw the movie with my friend Courtney. I thought the book was a magical escape that was equally romantic, bizarre and fascinating. Courtney is relatively new to Wichita, so she and I did a little time-traveling of our own: I introduced her to the magic that is the milkshakes at the '50s-style Jimmie's Diner during our girls' afternoon out.
I also started to read "Julie & Julia" by Julie Powell. I love the premise of the book, but haven't been able to further propel myself into the novel. The writing is a bit egocentric -- and the editing poorly done -- not quite the right recipe for this reader. And so the paperback remains partially read on my nightstand. I haven't seen the movie (and am now not as excited to as I was at first). We'll see ...
I ventured south to Stillwater, Okla., where my sister Amanda and brother-in-law Kurtis relocated for his fabulous new job with Oklahoma State University. Amanda, her dog Toby and I went crazy and unpacked her entire duplex in a day. (Exhausting work, but worth it to help my sis.) We did lunch at a cute little Thai place, explore the little college town and ate at Joseppi's, a Stillwater attraction. (Think Eskimo Joe goes to Italy.) So it wasn't all work and no play.
I saw a gorgeous Oklahoma sunset during my trip:

Poor little Toby, who was such a good sport during all of the unpacking, had a medical emergency (he's fine now). Amanda & I took him to the OSU animal clinic, where he got to wear a hilarious e-collar that he despised.
