Fruity photo shoot

My preggo diet has us keeping lots of fresh fruit and veggies in stock. Who said a produce-laden diet isn't fun?

Brian, who never ceases to amuse me, had me in fits of giggles with this bizarre creation (dubbed "Giant Strawberry Head Guy") and his related antics:

Sky's the limit

Thursday morning greeted me with a gorgeous sky. Amazing how a view like this can simultaneously humble and empower.

New pictures of little Roo

On Wednesday, Brian & I went in for a sonogram and were blessed with news that Baby B. is healthy and growing just as he or she should be. (We're still committed to waiting until the birth to find out if we're having a son or daughter. As with our 20-week sonogram, we wore "Don't Tell Us" name tags to our appointment.)

It's amazing to compare these images to the ones taken eight weeks ago. Roo now weighs 2 pounds, 13 ounces. The thigh bones have grown to be two inches long and are stronger and denser than they were in mid-December.

My favorite moment of the sonogram occurred just after the sonographer snapped the image of Baby B.'s profile. She said, "Let's get a picture of the feet while we're up here."

"Up here?" I asked her.

She explained that our flexible little one was folded up, with feet above head.

Roo was on the move earlier this week when Brian & I were watching the 2010 Vancouver Olympic games. Maybe we have a future gymnast in our midst.

More baby education

As part of a series of parenting classes Brian & I are taking, we spent Saturday afternoon in the Caring for Your Baby course. We learned the safest ways to bath, diaper and feed a baby, as well as some information on child health, development, safety and more. We're also intrigued by Dr. Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block technique, which they introduced at the class.


Brian & I used a doll we nicknamed "Gus Gus" during the hands-on demonstration portion of the class. (The nurse hadn't gotten to the "don't feed your baby Diet Coke" part yet.)

Shop dog

Mom & I spent Saturday morning shopping at Picket Fence Quilt Co., our favorite local quilting store, for a few last pieces of fabric to round out what I need to get started on my Classic Pooh quilt for Roo.

I've decided to use the Lucky Stars pattern by Terry Atkinson. (Click to see another quilt I've made using this pattern.)


While there, I spent some time playing with Halley, one of my favorite local shop dogs. (The airedales at The Slope come in a close second.)

February quilting inspiration

Mom & I met up Tuesday evening for the February meeting of the Prairie Quilt Guild. We weren't fans of master quilter Susan Stewart's presentation, but we were blown away by her beautiful creations. Here are photos I snapped of her pieces, as well as those of other members who showed their finished projects. (Stewart's Web site is worth a visit, especially to see her cute kitties.)
