Brain & I were packing heat this afternoon ... with baby registration scanning guns. We had agreed that (a) I should be showing before we got serious about registrations, and (b) we should fully enjoy and celebrate the holidays first.
So today was the perfect day to visit Babies R Us and Super Target to select dozens and dozens of parenting essentials that we'll soon stuff into our baby nursery to welcome our little one.
We've been taking the task of selecting items very seriously, with the help of the book "Baby Bargains" by Denise & Alan Fields. In fact, we purchased the 7
th edition and had done lots of reading and researching and then bought the 8
th edition to read up
on the authors' latest opinions. The authors' blog is also great because they track recalls and news from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and dozens of other parenting and safety groups. Several of my friends have recommended the book, and we laughed when we saw two other mommies-to-be referencing it at Super Target. One woman scanned the same baby monitor we selected. We complimented her on her choice, and she said, "That's what the book said to get!" and pointed to the paperback in her cart. We laughed and held ours up.
The good news is that Brian & I this fall had made decisions on the higher-priced items that take a little more thought and discussion, including baby furniture (which we purchased in December!), the car seat, stroller, swing, etc. Today we had a lot of fun scanning books, bath products, a diaper bag, organizers, etc.
In other nursery news, we've picked out paint and window treatments for the nursery and have our eyes on a new set of lamps. It'll be fun to work on it in these next four months.
In other pregnancy news, today marks 22 weeks. (Wow!) According to
BabyCenter.com, Baby B. is now 11 inches long (the length of a spaghetti squash) and weighs about a pound. Brian teased me when we realized that I'm only 4 feet, 3 inches taller than our baby. :D
I relish every movement I feel, and Brian even felt a kick earlier this week. What a miracle. We remain humbly in awe of the entire experience and can't wait to see what happens next.
