Happy b-day, indeed

Mom got quite the birthday gift today: she had her trach removed! She's been breathing on her own since 7 a.m. Tuesday and is impressing her occupational and physical therapists with her strength and motion. She had several visitors today, including a couple of her quilting friends, who stopped by for a birthday hello. She had a quiet evening to catch up on her rest and to gear up for another big day. Her doctor and nurses say she may even be released from the critical-care floor to a general hospital room Thursday. Like Mom's been saying, whatever gets her closer to the door is a good thing. I'll keep you posted.
