Westley's first Thanksgiving

We celebrated our little turkey's first Thanksgiving with Brian's family. For the first time since we've been celebrating holidays together, his parents stayed in Wichita for the occasion. (We typically spend the day in Leavenworth with my father-in-law's family).

This year was fun for me because Valisha, my brother-in-law Eric's girlfriend, joined us for dinner. More girls! Yay! Unfortunately, Uncle Eric wasn't feeling fabulous, so he slept through dinner in the back bedroom. So we told Valisha funny Eric stories while we recounted our many blessings, heard stories of Thanksgivings of yesteryear from Brian's grandma and let Westley entertain us with another important milestone (see below).

The grownup sweet potatoes, a recipe for sweet potato maple puree that's become a favorite of ours since Brian and I tried it for the first time in 2007.

The baby sweet potatoes, Westley's very first solid food! They were a huge hit. He is his parents' child.

Later in the day, we brought out the desserts and welcomed more relatives into the mix, including Brian's cousin Meagan and her husband Stephen, who live in Florida and met Westley for the first time. It was a fun, happy day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Linda, if you check out the video I posted on Facebook of Westley eating sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving Day, you can see Grandma in that. I love her laughter in the video. That'll be part of a wonderful memory of four generations gathered around the table.
